Harnessing Shetland's Natural Resources

The Project

Economic

The Viking wind farm project aims to utilise Shetland's world-class wind to provide economic benefits for the people of Shetland. It is anticipated that an estimated total of £37m will be injected into Shetland every year.

The proposed wind farm would have the capability to produce around 540 megawatts of electricity - producing clean, green energy while delivering financial benefits for the community.

By connecting Shetland to the national electricity grid, a new industry would be introduced to the local economy, providing opportunities for future generations of Shetlanders, underpinned by a genuine competitive advantage. A connection could also unlock the enormous potential of Shetland's wave and tidal energy resources.
