Harnessing Shetland's Natural Resources

The Project

Economic

The Viking Energy wind farm project aims to utilise Shetland's world-class wind to provide economic benefits for the people of Shetland. It is anticipated that an estimated total of £930 million will be injected into the Shetland economy over the life of the wind farm.

The proposed wind farm would have the capability to produce around 457 megawatts of clean, green energy while delivering major financial benefits for the community.

By connecting Shetland to the national electricity grid, a new industry would be introduced to the local economy, providing opportunities for future generations of Shetlanders, underpinned by a genuine competitive advantage. A connection could also unlock the enormous potential of Shetland's wave and tidal energy resources.
