Development Process

The Viking Windfarm must go through a development stage before any construction can be instigated. This will include:

  • Establishing the joint venture
  • Creating initial design concepts
  • Coordinating leases
  • Undertaking wind studies
  • Undertaking studies to inform the Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Undertaking public and targeted consultation
  • Establishing a viable windfarm design
  • Advancing a connection agreement with National Grid and other relevant agencies
  • Submitting a planning application

The timescale estimate for these works is more than three years. Wind and bird studies were started on site in 2003 and a planning application should be made in late 2006.
