Viking Energy Archive
This archive contains over 550 highly detailed documents and illustrations, mainly from the meticulous planning stages of the Viking Wind Farm. This large body of material is fully searchable on our site for the first time using the Google Custom Search box.
Starting with the oldest documents first, the section Environmental Impact Assessment 2009 contains the five volumes of documents prepared for our initial application for consent, which was to build 150 turbines.
The following year, in response to ongoing consultation, Viking Energy decided to remove 23 turbines, mainly from areas of deep peat or sensitive bird breeding sites. This required submission of a modified Environmental Statement to build 127 turbines. It makes up the Addendum section.
The rest of the archive is made up of various reports, surveys and newsletters, mainly from the period prior to April 2012, before Viking Energy gained consent for a 103-turbine wind farm.
The archive has been transferred from our old website as we move towards the development and construction phases of Shetland’s community-backed wind farm.
