Viking Energy Project Officer David Thomson has said that discussions held at the British Wind Energy Conference in Liverpool have been very useful. The meetings with turbine manufacturers, in particular, gave Viking Energy a significant volume of new information. Referring to the recently announced Planning Addendum, Mr Thomson said "the latest turbine options will be an important part of our considerations as we look to review our proposals."

An encouraging part of being at such a large event was the number of companies seeking out Viking Energy to discuss potential business.

Mr Thomson added "With millions of pounds of potential supply and servicing activity associated with the wind farm, there are a lot of companies who are telling us they will be keen to come to Shetland."

Of extra interest for Shetland in the future was a series of approaches to Viking Energy from upcoming marine energy developers. As David explained "Shetland's massive potential from our waves and tides is well appreciated by the entire renewable energy industry and beyond. Now that Viking Energy has triggered the development of the critical grid connection, companies are coming to us to ask advice about what may be possible once the interconnector is in place and unlocking some of that potential."
