New jobs on the way as activity ramps up towards construction

July 6th 2020

New job opportunities are starting to be created in Shetland following SSE Renewables’ decision last month to invest £580 million in building Viking Wind Farm.

As vacancies arise within SSE, they will be advertised in the careers section of the SSE website alongside those offered by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, developers of the Shetland HVDC transmission link and the associated convertor station at Upper Kergord.

Many other jobs with our contractors and their sub-contractors will be advertised in the coming months once contracts are awarded and announced and workforce recruitment gets under way.

The wind farm alone is expected to provide around 400 jobs at peak construction and a further 35 full-time local jobs in operation and maintenance throughout its lifespan.

The wind farm project remains subject to final approval of the transmission link by energy regulator Ofgem.
