Grid transformers arrive at Viking Wind Farm

July 18th 2022

Two grid transformers were successfully delivered to Viking Energy Wind Farm (VEWF) under a police convoy from Lerwick Port on Sunday 26 June.

The transformers will make up part of the new VEWF substation. Two remaining transformers are expected to be delivered to the construction site in early August.

Aaron Priest, Stakeholder Manage for Viking Wind Farm said: "The delivery of these transformers marks a major milestone in the Viking Energy Wind Farm project. The transformers required a police escort to move them from Lerwick Port to site due to their scale.

We would like to thank drivers and residents for their patience while this complex delivery took place. Public safety is paramount and in co-operation with Police Scotland, our team did their very best to keep disruption to a minimum."

The transformers started their journey in Linz, Austria.
