Shetland Islands Council has granted planning permission for an enlarged temporary construction compound at Scar Quilse, south of Voe, next to the main A970 road.
The site will be built by main contractor RJ McLeod to provide space for buildings, equipment and vehicles involved in construction of the northern sections of the wind farm.
Viking Energy already had consent for two smaller compounds in the area, one on either side of the main road. As project plans were being refined it was decided that one larger compound would be more suitable.
Councillors on the Planning Committee approved the application on Monday, allowing the compound to remain in place for up to five years before being reinstated.
Two other compounds are to be built at different access points to the wind farm site – one near Sandwater and a smaller one at Scord of Sound.
