Viking Energy is currently reviewing the planned construction of the Kergord Access Track due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Shetland contractor Tulloch Developments was due to start building the 1.3 mile track with completion due in July. However, against the background of the uncertain situation locally and nationally, Viking Energy and Tulloch Developments have agreed to take a period of time to review the preparations for the works with a view to commencing construction only when it is mutually agreed to be safe and acceptable to do so.
In a joint statement, Tulloch Developments and Viking Energy said: “In light of the current Coronavirus outbreak it has been decided jointly to postpone the start of the construction works on the Kergord Access Track to undertake a detailed review of the plans for the works. As this review takes place with all those involved we will continue to monitor the situation, and will update the local community as and when we consider the works can begin.”
The Kergord Access Track will provide SSEN Transmission with a route into the site of its proposed electricity converter station, which is part of its Shetland HVDC Link project.
